Reputed to be uncontrollable, the Rhône is today a pleasantly navigable river and the stretch that flows through Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur is one of the most picturesque sections.
At the stopping places along the river, a captivating natural, historical and cultural heritage is waiting to be discovered: Arles the "city of art and history" are the Camargue where flamingos, bulls and horses live in the wild and fortresses are erected along the riverside, as is the châteaux of Tarascon and Beaucaire.
