Côte d’Or Côte d’Or is located in the eastern part of France in the Burgundy region and its capital is the world renowned Dijon where the famous mustard is cultivated. It was created in 1790, and is named after the Côte, the linear fault escarpment where you can find the famous Burgundy vineyards.
Culturally, Dijon has a lot of museums such as : the Musée des Beaux Arts (where the tombs of the Dukes is found and a good collection of art), the Musée de la Vie Bourguignonne gives an interesting insight into the Burgundian lifestyle,…and the famous mustard also has its museum, in the basement of the Amora factory.
For the gastronomy : try 'oeufs en meurette' or eggs poached in red wine, Burgundy snails, gingerbread, aniseed sweets from Flavigny or ham in parsley.
Historic treasures include over 200 castles, the Cistercian abbey of Fontenay, medieval towns & half-timbered houses. Outdoor enthusiasts will also enjoy the forests and rolling hills for sport & leisure.
