For some, two wheels are the only way to get around. Mountain bike acrobats out for thrills and soft-pedalling touring cyclists will find that the region offers plenty for all. In the Hautes-Alpes, where several "cols" have been made famous by the Tour de France, cycling enthusiasts can follow the tracks of champions. Several paths are also provided for cyclists more cut out for a gentle ride with the family to sporting exploits.
In the Var, over 500 km of tracks have been marked out for mountain bikers, adapted to different levels. The Alpes-de-Haute-Provence also offers mountain bike circuits that can be completed inside a few hours with a return to the starting point.
In the Bouches-du-Rhône, the Alpilles are particularly suited to mountain biking.
Are you keen to see the region and take advantage of the cooler months to stretch your legs? The Haut Vaucluse area is bending over backwards for cyclists and offering six new bicycle touring routes to suit all levels.
The loops, ranging from 9 to 45km, criss-cross the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains, the Côtes du Rhône vineyards and the Enclave des Papes. Each route features a well-planned range of services offered by the “Accueil vélo” network of professionals which brings together 52 partners: accommodation providers, artisans, cycle hire outlets, museums, restaurants, taxi firms and wine-growers. All are committed to serving the cycling community and offering it specially designed services.
