The First World War Recounted with Feeling in the Dragon's Cavern
The Dragon’s Cavern was just an old stone quarry until 1915, when the Germans moved in. They transformed the cave into a veritable underground barracks with artillery positions, dormitories, a first-aid station and a chapel. During the war, Germans and French both lived there together. All sorts of traces allow us to imagine the life that soldiers lived. A museum recreates the daily life of a soldier on the front. As the underground scenes unfurl and thanks to modern animation methods, articles, background noises, videos and archive pictures, the museum has become one of the key sites of Remembrance of the First World War. It is a remarkable historical and educational testimony.
