The Paladru region is without doubt a Mecca for lakeside archaeology, attracting the interest of many researchers since the end of the 19th century. Two exceptional sites were discovered following underwater searches: traces of a village community dating from the Neolithic period on the Baigneurs shore, near Charavines; and the fortified settlement in Colletière of the farmer-knights, dating from the year 1000 and immortalised in the film "On connaît la chanson" (Same Old Song) by Alain Resnais.
The Lake Paladru museum displays the discoveries from archaeological searches conducted in the depths of the lake, which revealed two drowned villages. The best objects found by archaeologists (tools, weapons, toys, musical instruments, etc.) are displayed in the museum, giving a glimpse of everyday life from that time. Informative tours about the region's heritage and temporary exhibitions on archaeology, history and ethnography are organised around the museum.
