The Loir-et-Cher was favoured by kings from the 15th - 18th centuries for its temperate climate and acres of rich forestland. Set between the rivers Loire and Cher - home to deer, eels, carp & pike.
This is the place for the Grand Chateaux Tour including the Chateau de Cheverny and the Chateau de Chaumont with its superb views of the Loire.
The Loir river to the north is certainly more tranquil than the main Loire river itself. You'll find troglodyte caves, fishing, boat trips, and great walking. The enticing vineyards around Ponce-sur-Loir produce the excellent Jasnieres and Coteaux du Vendomais wines.
