Paris/Ile De France
Pas de Calais in Nord-pas-de-Calais

The Côte d’Opale’s 120 km of beaches, dunes and cliffs unfurl between Calais and Berck-sur-Mer.

It’s a landscape full of contrasts, mixing the bright green of its meadows with the blue-grey of the waves: a region which lives from the sea and plays with the wind.

The Côte d’Opale is traditionally both influenced by the sea and rooted in the land, an alliance that, although often violently broken throughout history, has always been repaired, to form a fragile balance between the waves of the Channel and the furrows of the fields.

From the marshland of the Audomarois area to the gentle valleys of the Ternois and 7 Valleys region, the landscapes of Pas-de-Calais are unspoilt. From copses to marshes, everything here exudes softness and a return to nature.

The parks and gardens are open to the public and craftsmen invite the curious visitor to pop into their workshops to learn about their craft.

Béthune and Arras are towns that have been influenced by the Flemish and, to a certain extent, the Spanish people. They represent the limits of an extensive tract of land lying between the Artois plains, the mining area and the farming villages. They bear the marks, in the same way as Lens and Liévin, of the First World War, immortalized in the many white crosses and the landscape scarred by memories.

The Artois hills are dominated by beautiful churches and a particular type of architecture in brick and stone. The slag heaps have shaped the landscape, becoming areas for walking and outdoor pursuits.
