The "Canal du Midi", from Toulouse to Carcassonne (64 miles - 19h)
Built during the 17th Century by Pierre-Paul Riquet and now inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO, the "Canal du Midi", which extends to become the "Canal de Garonne", links the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea.
Over 64 miles of navigable waterways are available to the amateur sailor between Toulouse and Carcassonne, a trip that will take you through and under some fifty locks and bridges, from Toulouse to the Lauragais area, the land of Cockaigne and woad via Castelnaudary before reaching Carcassonne in Languedoc-Roussillon.
