Territoire de Belfort in Franche ComtéThe Territoire de Belfort, founded by the signing of the 1870 Frankfurt treaty and recognized officially in 1922, is located in the heart of west Europe at the doorway to Burgundy and Alsace.
The department boasts a vast diversity of scenery, formed through a variety of historical and geological influences : the Ballon d’Alsace, the Massif des Vosges, Malsaucy lake, which offer us an impressive view of the authentic and generous countryside to be found along the ‘Villages-in-bloom route’ . The southern part of the Territoire, covered with small lakes and rivers, offers some of the most splendid viewpoints of the region. From the plateau de Croix, the panorama stretches from the mounts of Ajoie in Switzerland as far as the mounts of Jura, passing through the Black Forest, the plain of Alsace and of course, the Vosges.
In Belfort, art is a tradition which, since its beginning with the Lion by Bartholdi, has never ceased to grow and diversify. The town is adorned with spruce, harmonious colours, that each visitor can discover with the different renovated facades and the colourful flower displays in the public gardens.
The Territoire de Belfort has made its name as an authentic crossroads for Germanic and Roman languages.
