Walking in Poitou-Charentes Poitou-Charentes has many varied and beautiful excursions for walkers scattered all over the region. There are walks for all ages, guided and also trails marked out for the more independent explorers. There are local walking associations throughout the region that have marked out the most interesting routes. Walks by lakes and beaches, through valleys and forests, villages and towns, all easily followed by sign post. There are paths that bring you through the hills of Saintonge and Charente by vineyards and beautiful botany. The meadows of the Bocage bressuirais are remarkable as are the marshland of Marais Poitevin. There are many different birds to see and the vast sunflower fields are outstanding.
