Located 600 metres above sea level, Le Puy-en-Velay offers a spectacular backdrop to the festival, while the volcanic activity that the town is famed for provides powerful air currents, perfect for ballooning. Visitors with their feet firmly on the ground can enjoy the plentiful local wine and cheese on offer, while keeping their eyes skywards.
